Ludhiana: Students of Master of Entrepreneurship and Family Business (MEFB) first year and BBA third year of Kamla Lohtia SD College exhibited their marketing skills by organising a consumer hub. A number of student groups had put up various stalls which included food items, games, handcrafted products etc. The event was a grand success. All students participated enthusiastically and were happy to gain good returns on their investment. President Sunil Aggarwal and other members of management committee along with principal Dr Shiv Mohan Sharma encouraged the faculty for this effort to infuse selling and marketing Skills in students. They also congratulated Prof Taranpreet Kaur and Prof Karmjit Kaur for their support and encouragement to students.

National seminar

An ICSSR sponsored national seminar was organised by the Department of Business Management and Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, on the topic “Foreign Direct Investment - An Impetus for India’s Growth”. DL Sharma, MD Vardhman Yarns and Threads Limited, Ludhiana, was the chief guest and Dr Karamjeet Singh, dean, Faculty of Business Management and Commerce, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the guest of honour. Dr MM Goel, dean, Colleges, Kurukshetra University, delivered the key note address. He stressed upon the fact that how FDI played an important role in the process of globalisation in the past two decades. He told that India emerged as the third largest source of FDI with increased investment by 65 per cent in 2015 leading to over 9,000 new and safeguarded jobs. Chief guest spoke on how FDI generates benefits by bringing in non-debt creating foreign capital resources, technological upgrading, new employment and exports. The theme paper was presented by Dr Kuldeep Kaur, assistant professor, Department of Business Management and Commerce, GNKCW, Ludhiana. The technical session was chaired by Dr Joginder Singh Dhawan, Ex-professor and Head, department of economics and sociology, PAU, Ludhiana. Key speakers on the occasion were Dr Jasveen Kaur (Associate Professor, University Business School, GNDU, Amritsar), Dr Manjit Singh (Professor, University School of Applied Managament, Punjabi University, Patiala) and Dr. Sanjay Kaushik (Professor, University Business School, PU, Chandigarh).

KCW cadets bag laurels

Participation in Republic Day Parade is a matter of pride for each participant. Every NCC cadet dreams of being a part of flawless parade conducted at Rajpath on the occasion of Republic Day each year. This dream came true for two NCC Cadets of Khalsa College for Women Jagroop Kaur and Priyanka Routela who became part of Punjab Contingent during Republic Day Parade. Cadet Jagroop Kaur won various medals at inter-unit and inter-group levels and became part of guard of honour in final parade. Cadet Priyanka Routela was the only girl cadet selected for cultural performances at Rashtrapati Bhawan. She was selected for contingent drill and PM rally. These cadets bagged various prizes for their achievements. Punjab Directorate was declared as winner out of all the directorates. Principal Dr Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of these cadets. She said these cadets are the torch bearers for the college students. She motivated them to continue with same spirit and enthusiasm in other fields also.

Seminar organised

GGN Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines, organised an interactive session on roadmap for success. GGNIMT alumni Vishal Arora, Head, Bond Indexes, Standard and Poor, US and Gaurav Kaura, zonal business manager, South Zone, Ceat Tyres Ltd. were the resource person. Arora initiated the session by sharing his success journey with the students. He highlighted the various milestones and challenges of his life as an employee. He advised the students to learn from his mistakes and start early with a spark. He inspired the students to set their goal and move aggressively with a deep sense of commitment. He also motivated the students to have a role model for them that helped to introspect and instilled a desire to do more. He exhorted that “one’s soft skills and analytical capabilities go a long way in climbing the success ladder.” Kaura shared with the students the mantra of handling work pressure in the corporate. He said one’s ability to deal with work pressure can mean the difference between success and failure. He shared his journey from college to corporate and inspired the students with his formula to success. He did a comparative study of education in Punjab and rest of the country. Taking about the immense job opportunities in India, Kaura said India being a growing country has massive growth prospects that can be tapped with the right skill set of the budding employees. He also added that the younger population of our country added to our growth prospects. He also guided the students with the advantages of pursuing MBA in India. The students participated enthusiastically in the session and asked a lot of questions pertaining to job and placement in corporate. Prof Manjit Singh Chhabra, director, GGNIMT, thanked the guest for sharing his experience and giving valuable insights to the budding managers. Principal Dr PS Khattra was also present on the occasion.

Quiz held

GGNIVS Business Club organised a quiz competition on Monday. The programme began with few inspirational words from the college director Manjit Singh Chhabra. Four teams participated and each team comprised of four students. The teams were named as accountants, bankers, creditors and debtors. During the preliminary round, questions related to economics, laws, accounts, direct tax and computers were asked. In second round questions related to general knowledge were asked and in round three participants were required to identify certain video clippings. Fourth round tested the participants’ awareness about current affairs. Round five had a set of audio recording to be identified logo identification was fun with many in the audience itching to give answers. Fast and furious round was a real brain teaser requiring the participants to answer maximum number of questions within minimum allotted time. The whole event thoroughly involved the audience, who participated enthusiastically, with some of them winning prizes. The team accountants (Vishesh Kumar, Sahil Gupta, Kirandeep Kaur and Abhinav) won the first prize. The second prize was bagged by the creditors

lecture on drug addiction

Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, organised a lecture on drug addiction and its remedies. Navdeep Singh from All India Radio delivered the lecture. This function was organised by Anti-Drug Society, Youth Club, NSS and Red Cross. Principal Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal was the chief guest. Dr Anita Joshi, in-charge, drug addiction welcomed to the chief guest.

Navdeep Singh said youth were the hope of the nation and society. Future depends upon them. But if they go astray, the hope starts staggering. Empty looks, motiveless targets, staggering steps, lifeless bodies, meaningless lives, perturbed souls-these expressions may describe their condition. Dr. Grewal said for solving the problem of drugs it is essential to find out its causes. Through this programme as effort has been done to bring forth the causes by directly interacting with the youngsters caught in this trap.

Fest begins

Today the city witnessed the beginning of a two days’ mega event —Parwaaz, management and cultural fest, a new initiative of University Business School, Panjab University Regional Centre. A total of 123 teams representing 53 institutes participated in the event. The event was inaugurated by Prof Harmeet Singh Sandhu, director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana. Prof Sandhu congratulated the students and faculty members of UBS. Dr Ravi Inder Singh, Co-ordinator, UBS, Ludhiana, welcomed the guests and participants and apprised the audience about the different items of the Parwaaz. Fashion show performed by students of UBS Ludhiana left everyone charmed and mesmerised. — TNS
