The Postal Department has decided to conduct workshops in city colleges to make students aware of philately as a hobby. During these workshops, students will be motivated to open their philatelic deposit account in post office and informed the ways in which they can preserve their collections.
This was revealed by Manisha Bansal Badal, Director Postal Services (HQ), Punjab Postal Circle, today while announcing that the department will hold a four-day state-level philatelic exhibition, “PUNPEX-2016”, at DAV College in Section 10 here from February 6.
In the exhibition, 300 philatelic frames of rare postage stamps will be displayed. Rare collection of stamps issued on great personalities, historical monuments, heritage and culture, and flora or fauna will be showcased by philatelists from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
She said they event was being held after five years and the main focus would be on popularising ‘My Stamp’ concept. Under the concept, anybody can get his or her stamp made. A minimum 12 stamps would be prepared at the cost of Rs 300. A ‘My Stamp’ counter will be set up at the venue of the exhibition to prepare personalised stamps on the spot.
