More than 5,000 college teachers from 22 states will get training in Indian culture, moral values, spirituality, yoga and ayurveda by Dev Sanskriti University.
Dev Sanskriti University has initiated this drive under the Indian Culture Knowledge Cell, for which initially, the target of 5,000 teachers has been set.
A three-day workshop under this mission commenced for teachers from Gujarat today.
The Pro Vice Chancellor of Dev Sanskriti University, Dr Pranav Pandya, addressed the teachers during the inaugural session of the workshop.
Emphasising on the need of getting to know the rich, diversified heritage, ancient culture, morality, spirituality, yoga and ayurveda, Dr Pandya said apprising teachers of these aspects would ensure direct transfer of this knowledge to the students.
“Professional education, current affairs and information technology arw all imperative for students. But to make them true human beings, knowledge of our ancient rich culture, moral values, customs ,traditions and health are also vital. This programme intends to achieve this target for which teachers from across the country are being trained,” he added.
Citing epics like the Gita, Mahabharata, Ramayan, Vedas, Upanishads and Shruti, Dr Pandya said these are knowledge banks that are relevant even after centuries. He expressed concern about the fact that the younger generation was drifting away from this storehouse of knowledge.
Gauri Shankar Sharma, Kesari Kapil, Dr Chinmay Pandya, Namo Narayan Pandya and PD Gupta also addressed the delegates.
Indian Culture Knowledge Cell coordinator HP Singh said in the first phase, 5,000 teachers from 22 states would be trained. The second phase would cover the rest of the states.
On the sidelines of the workshop, the Haridwar chapter of the Union Bank of India donated an ambulance to Global Gayatri Family, Shantikunj. Bank DGM Shishir Chandra and Haridwar city bank manager PK Bansal said that taking into account the social works carried out by Shantikunj, they had decided to provide the social institution with an ambulance.
They handed over the keys of the ambulance to Dr Pranav Pandya.
This ambulance will be used at Janmshtabdi Hospital, Shantikunj, for the patients.
