With a view to enhance the information technology skills (IT/Software) of college students, the Higher Education Department has entered into partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, to introduce the technique in selected colleges.
The Spoken Tutorial Project Knowledge Centres will be launched in 12 government colleges under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMSIT), an initiative of the Union HRD Ministry. These centres will be set up government colleges in Chamba, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kullu, Dharamsala, Reckong Peo, Kukumseri (Lahaul and Spiti) Mandi, Rampur and Sanjauli (Shimla), Solan and Nahan. The college authorities have been directed to start the training programmes from current academic session (January-December 2017).
Under the project, Spoken Tutorials, IIT, Mumbai, would provide software on quality teaching material and technical support to the partner colleges in downloading the material and giving it to the students, said Anita Kadre, IIT faculty member and coordinator for HP.
The courses offered are skill oriented. The centers have been directed to collect the details of students and start Spoken Tutorial sessions by February 25.
The Spoken Tutorials, IIT, Mumbai, has tie-ups with other institutions in HP, including Directorate of Technical Education, engineering colleges, Jaypee University and AP Goyal University, said Anita Kadre.
