The Agriculture College in Bawal town may restart in the coming academic session after a gap of 15 years as the state government has initiated process to reopen it, following the demand of the people of the region.
Notably, Bawal MLA Dr Banwari Lal had recently raised the demand before the state government.
“The college was opened in 1995 with a five-year course in BSc Honours (agriculture). Since it was affiliated to the Chaudhary Charan Singh Agriculture University (CCSAU), Hisar, some teachers of the university were deputed here to take classes, but unfortunately it was closed in 2000, following financial crunch,” said Dr Satyavir Yadav, regional director of the CCSAU Regional Research Station in Bawal. Ram Kisan Mehlawat, a farmer leader, said: “If the government restarts the college, it will turn out to be a boon for those youngsters of the region.”
Sources said Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar had asked the vice chancellor of CCSAU, Hisar, to find out the feasibility to restart the college.
“We are making efforts to restart BSc Honours (agriculture) classes at the college. The basic infrastructure required to run a college is already available, but the question is about the availability of the teaching staff,” said the Agriculture Minister.
The then CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda too had announced to reopen the college at a function in Bawal in 2013, but nothing concrete was done.
