The department of physics, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised the DBT sponsored Eureka Fest-2015 on Thursday. The chief guest on the occasion was Professor A K Ganguli, Director, INST, Mohali. He praised students for their participation and motivated them to focus on research-based learning. An overwhelming number of students participated in various competitions such as extempore , PowerPoint presentation, debate, quiz, poster presentation, project making, collage making and essay writing.
NSS Day observed
NSS Day was observed at The Government College of Education on Thursday. A one-day NSS camp was also organised. A skit competition regarding the cleanliness campaign was also held. Students presented cultural items. Principal Dr Harsh Batra congratulated the NSS officers and students. The elections to the general NSS body were also held.
Govt College of Commerce & Business Administration
On the occasion of NSS Day, the Government College of Commerce and Business Administration held poster-making and slogan-writing competition, a nukkad natak and a rally. The theme of the events was “Bad Effects of Using Mobiles”. In the poster-making and slogan-writing contests, 25 students of the college participated. In this contest, Mitika Garg of BCom III won the first prize, Kiran of B Com III won the second prize. The third prize was won by Shivani of B Com I. In the nukkad natak, three teams participated.
Dev Samaj College of Education
The Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36, observed NSS Day with enthusiasm under the guidance of Dr Anuradha Agnihotri and Dr Rohit Bhandari, NSS programme officers .The function was graced by Poonam Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh. Dr Anuradha Agnihotri gave a brief PowerPoint presentation, highlighting the activities organised under the NSS programme.
Chem Fest
The chemical society of the chemistry department of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chimica, organised the Chem Fest-2015. Principal Dr JS Raghu was the chief guest on the occasion. More than 200 science students participated enthusiastically in the event.
Workshop
The department of computer science, DAV College, Sector 10, organised a workshop for students and the faculty. The resource person for the workshop was Mani Madhukar from IBM. Madhukar started the workshop by introducing the cloud computing framework, its various service models and applications and integration layers. He said the cloud concepts were being mapped with Soft Layer and Bluemix to provide end users with rich computing experience.
New students welcomed
The faculty and students of the Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Sector 25, Panjab University, welcomed new BDS students in a glittering white coat ceremony and induction programme held at the university auditorium on Thursday. The event was attended by parents of the students. Dr Deepak Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Tribal martial dance
The department of Indian theatre, PU, on Thursday presented “Chhau”, a tribal martial dance, at the newly set up lab theatre of the department. A workshop on it is going on at the department, in which students of MA participating since September 14. The workshop is being conducted by renowned Chhau dance expert Bhumikeshwar. — TNS
