The art department of Tribune Model School, Sector 29, organised a one-day workshop for the students of classes VII-VIII. Deepshikha Goyal, artist and curator, was the resource person who shared her expertise in marble painting. Students gave a marble effect on canvas which was a new and interesting technique for them. The resource person appreciative of the creative energy among students gave inputs to each artist’s work to help express their imagination.
Induction ceremony at Bhavan
An induction ceremony was held at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. A special assembly was organised for the ceremony in which Pranay Goyal of XII-C2 and Shreya Sharma of XII-A took over the reins as captains, while Shresht Jain of XII-B and Saniya Sehgal of XII-A were appointed vice-captains. The newly appointed cabinet members were conferred badges by senior principal Vineeta Arora and vice-principal Suparna Bansal. —TNS
Correction
This is to clarify that the fee hike of Bhavan Vidyalaya School, Sector 27, Chandigarh, has erroneously been mentioned as 65 per cent in the news item titled "Fee cauldron simmers as parents, schools refuse to budge" that appeared on May 2 in Chandigarh Tribune. Earth Day celebrated
Patiala: Career Academy, Patiala, organised a week-long programme comprising various activities to celebrate Earth Day. An inter-house face painting competition on the theme “Save Nature, Save Earth” was conducted. Saneha Rana of Class VII-A, Jaspreet Kaur from Class VII-A and Yashmeen Kaur Billing from Class VII-A won the first, second and third positions, respectively, for Curie, Edison and Einstein Houses. The school also enthusiastically participated in “Swachh Bharat–No Poly bag Campaign”. Students of Class VII marched to Sidhuwal village raising slogans to support the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
DAV students shine in Olympiads
The ambiance at DAV Public School, Patiala, was filled with pride and joy when the news of the achievement by its students at various International Olympiads broke. The achievement was brought in by 80 students from Classes III to XII. To honour these pupils, a special programme was organised. It was graced by Dr Harish Malhotra, Dr Malkeet Singh, along with the president of the State Welfare Association. As many as 29 students were conferred with gold medals, 25 silver medals and 25 bronze medals. Above all, Kaustubh Shrivastava of Class VIII-D was awarded with the Medal of Excellence for his outstanding achievement in the English Olympiad.
Labour Day celebrations
Labour Day was celebrated at Akal Academy, Reeth Kheri. Students recited poems and teachers presented their views on the occasion. Principal Shaminderpal Kaur appreciated the efforts put up by Class IV employees by honouring them. The principal motivated the students to show their gratitude towards the workers of the school.
Special assembly
A special assembly was organised on the Narain Smart School campus to celebrate Labour Day. A poem signifying dignity of labour was the highlight of the assembly. The school management and the principal thanked their workers for their selfless services.
Poster-making competition
Students of Ryan International School, Patiala, expressed their concern and consciousness towards environment through an activity on poster making. The students were asked to make on-the-spot posters on the topic “save our environment”. Children came up with splendid ideas and covered most of the aspects of environment.
Magic show
A magic show was organised at Police DAV Public School, Dadhera, in association with Red Cross Society. Magician SP Verma showed various tricks to students from Classes I to VII. School principal Meena Thapar thanked SP Verma and Red Cross Society for organising such events for the welfare of society. OC
Schools versus clubs
Few school teams have raised objection at restricting them to field only those players studying in their respective schools while allowing the clubs to field players from different schools. “Our aim is to promote a player’s talent. By allowing clubs to field players from different schools, we trying to provide an equal opportunity to every player,” said Shobhan Rana. However, when asked whether the players fielded by the clubs were actually registered with them, Rana said: “That is being looked after by the Chandigarh Football Association.”
