The humanities section, department of applied sciences, organised an expert lecture on self development at PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh. The key speaker for the session was Dr Vidhu Mohan, former professor, Psychology, Punjab University. She talked about the concept of self development in context of how happiness and well being of a person contributes towards his self development. Taking the real-life examples, the speaker tried to explain the concept of happiness and elements of happiness. She elucidated the importance of being healthy to lead a happy life.

WORKSHOP ON RESUME WRITING

A half-day workshop on resume writing was organised by the humanities section of the department of applied sciences, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh. Shivinder Kang, assistant professor, English, Regional Institute of English, Chandigarh, was the key note speaker. Kang initiated the discussion with the requisites for a magnificent resume. He interacted with the students and engaged them actively in the discussion. He further added that a resume is the mirror image of one’s own personality.

India Water Week

The civil engineering department of PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, organised a week long programme to commemorate ‘India Water Week 2016’ today. Professor Siby John, Head, Civil Engineering Department, said through this programme the institution will create awareness amongst stakeholders about water – environment and related issues through lectures and activities. The event is targeted at a vast audience comprising students, faculty, policy planners and technologists involved with water resources management.

Researcher bags third prize

Panjab University (PU) junior research fellow (JRF) Kiranjeet Kaur won third prize in national student research convention “Anveshan- 2015” in category 5 of social science, humanities, management and law at Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. Kaur is doing research at Department of Education. The national-level research convention took place from March 28 to 30, 2016 at the SPU, Gujarat. She had earlier secured first prize at PU and the zonal-level at National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, for her research proposal. 

exhibition held

An exhibition of paintings and sculptures by group 21 began today at the Museum of Fine Arts, Panjab University (PU). PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibition is being organised by the Department of Art History and Visual Arts. The exhibition will be open till April 8. The exhibition features works by artists from different states of the country like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Chandigarh. 

Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz bags project

Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh Community Radio ‘Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz’ in association with Panjab State Council of Science and Technology (PSCST) has bagged a project titled, ‘Science for woman health and nutrition’ from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The project with its principal investigators, Dr Neelam Gulati Sharma from PSCST and Prof Archana R Singh from School of Communication Studies, will work towards producing women centric programs for PU Radio Station. As a result ongoing programme of the radio station, “Hamari Beti” will be elevated to a daily programme and will also be augmented in its content. In the first phase of the project, a baseline study and capacity building workshop was kicked off in the School of  Communication Studies today. 

Placement week

As many as 30 students were shortlisted by three pharma companies on the inaugural day of Techno Pharma-2016, the 5th annual placement week, which kicked off at Rayat-Bahra University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences here today. During the week-long event, which would conclude on April 9, more than 14 companies, including Abbott, Sun Pharma and Dr G Wellness are expected to select students for jobs in various fields, claimed the management of the university.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions, said students were groomed and trained to make them fit for corporate circle. “The aim of the placement drive is to make students employable even before they complete their degrees,” he said. A panel discussion on “Industry Expectations from Pharma Graduates” was also held during the event.

Smart wheel chair 

Students of diploma wing, Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Sector 26, designed a smart wheel chair for a ‘Divyaang’ student. The project bagged first prize in the technical fest at Swami Vivekanand Institute of Engineering and Technology (SVIET), Banur, Punjab.  Final year students including Udit Pal, Abhinav, Manish Kumar and Lakshay under the guidance of Renu, lecturer, CCET, developed the project.  The institution is already integrating the Divyaang students under scheme of Person with Disabilities governed by HRD ministry, GOI, New Delhi. Student designed the project looking into the daily routine problems of their companion Iruwar, students of second semester, computer engineering. — TNS
