A city-based biology expert has spotted 11 errors in the NCERT textbooks of classes XI-XII following which he has written a letter to the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) and the NCERT seeking rectification of the same.
Giving details, Dr Arvind Goyal said earlier in 2012-13, he had spotted 50 errors in the NCERT biology textbook of Class XI and 60 in the textbook of Class XII.
“Some of the errors were rectified after the media highlighted the same, but the rest were rectified only on the directions of the Punjab and High Court after I filed a PIL. However, that too took over one-and-a-half year,” he disclosed.
Notably, a couple of months back, Dr Goyal’s son, a student of St John’s High School, had written a letter to the PMO after spotting errors in the Science Exemplar of Class IX, which was highlighted in these columns. Following this, the PMO had immediately directed the NCERT to rectify the mistakes in the textbook.
“Looking at the prompt action from the Prime Minister’s office to my son’s complaint, I decided to write to them as well,” Dr Goyal added.
