The members of Panjab University Extension Library today staged their protest by burning their degrees against the fee hike of the library membership.
Parvinder Kumar, chairman of Panjab University Extension Library, said the refundable security fee for special membership of extension library was Rs 25,00 which has been hiked to Rs 4,000 while the annual fee which was Rs 500 earlier has been hiked to RS 2,000.
“Now the students have to deposit Rs 6,000 which is a high amount for the students to pay. In addition to this, earlier, four books were issued which have now been reduced to two,” he said.
On April 3, during the meeting of syndicate, the matter was raised but could not reach to any fruitful conclusion and now the students want that the matter should be discussed in the meeting of senate which is scheduled on May 7.
