First cut-off list out at colleges across Jammu

For the students who had applied online for admission in undergraduate programmes at the Government Degree Colleges across the Jammu division, the wait was finally over as the first list of cut-off percentage was released today. Nearly 40,000 aspirants had applied for admission in the academic session 2016-17.
At Government Maulana Azad Memorial College, Jammu, physics subject in non-medical stream registered 98 per cent while the cut-off was 70.6 percent. Chemistry recorded a percentage of 87.6 while 69.4 was the cut-off percentage.
In Arts stream, sociology subject registered percentage of 100 while the cut-off was 62 per cent. Similarly, in economics and business management, the percentage was 100 while the cut-off was 59.4 and 55.4 percent respectively.
Principal Anita Sudan said there was stiff competition for admission given the higher percentage of marks secured by aspirants. “It is good for the college that meritorious students are taking keen interest to seek admission here”, Dr Sudan said.
The atmosphere at the prestigious Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Canal Road was electrifying due to a heavy rush of students. While some of them were excited about finding their names in the first cut-off list while, others who could not made into the first hoped for their entry in the second list.
Meanwhile, the percentage registered in computer applications was 99 while the cut-off was 89 per cent. In both medical and non-medical streams, the highest percentage was recorded at 99 whereas the cut-off was 71.4 and 71.2 percentage respectively. Geology and functional English recorded percentage of 100 while the cut-off percentage was 88 and 74 per cent respectively.
Two renowned women colleges in the winter capital also witnessed fierce competition in terms of cut-off percentage. At Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, medical stream recorded percentage of 100 while the cut-off was 85 per cent. Principal of the college, Dr Kiran Luthra, said in non-medical stream, the cut-off percentage was 68.6 while 81 per cent was registered in commerce stream. Arts and home science registered 57.4 and 53 per cent cut-off respectively.
Sri Pratap Memorial Rajput College of Commerce, Canal Road, registered percentage of 100 in BCom while the cut-off was 55 per cent. Similarly, in BCA and BBA, the percentage was 90 and 98.2, while the cut-off was 72 and 83 per cent respectively.
Commerce stream registered 100 percentage at Government College for Women in Parade, while the cut-off percentage stood at 68.4 percent. In non-medical stream, the percentage was 99.6 while cut-off was 70.2 percent.
The second cut-off list will be released on July 3.
