‘Focus on skill-oriented programmes’

The quality will remain the buzzword at SCD Government College and in the efforts of Quality Assurance in higher education, there will be zero tolerance policy.

This was stated by Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, principal of SCD Government College. He said SCD Government College was a premier institution and has been working proactively to improve the quality of higher education using the instrument of quality assurance cell.

To materialise its mission, ‘transforming young lives through learning environment’, the college has started the skill oriented programmes such Masters in Business Innovations, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), Masters in Information Technology MSc (IT) , Diploma in Stock Market and Trading Operations. These courses have given boost to the idea of skill inculcation among the students and the college has been developed as a skill centre for the benefit of students.

He added that improvement in the infrastructure to keep its pace with modernisation was another step.

“To keep its pace with the modernisation, the college has constructed nine new smart class rooms, two ultra modern seminar hall, technology labs, information technology labs with the help of its alumni,” added Sandhu.

The SCD Government College has become the first college of its kind which has introduced complete online process of admission, right from the inviting of application, generating merit list with transparency, deposit of fee, issue of roll numbers and connectivity through SMS and email with every student of the college. This step has not only ensured the transparency in the admission process but has also cut down the cost of doing the admissions both from the points of view of students as well as administration.

Dr Ashwani Bhalla, institutional coordinator, NAAC, said the college will be organising a seven-day faculty development programme in April to enrich the faculty so that skill development, promotion of research and enrichment of the faculty can be ensured.
