Though the department has not finalised the date, parents of students belonging to the EWS category will be able to submit their applications to the respective schools till February.

Director School Education (DSE) Rubinderjit Singh Brar said, “We are yet to issue the amendment but the schools have agreed to extend the date for the EWS category by about two months. There were some issues in the acceptance of income certificates in the schools, so we extended the last date for submitting the applications. Earlier, it was December 12. Now, we have given two more months. The date will be finalised soon.”

Chandigarh Parents’ Association had taken up the issue and given a presentation to the Education Department in this regard. In the presentation, the association had stated that the parents were facing problems during the submission of forms in private schools. Several schools, including St John’s High School, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Carmel Convent School and St Anne’s Convent School, had asked for four documents, including the latest electricity bill, BSNL landline telephone bill, water bill and the valid rent deed with a copy of tenants’ verification by the police.

The presentation also mentioned that some schools were still insisting for the Aadhaar card in a contempt of the Supreme Court order and the Administrations’ guidelines, which have not made the card mandatory.

The Chandigarh Parents’ Association had stated that the estate office has already said that

self-declaration should be acceptable from the wards of eligible parents, seeking admission under the EWS category.

The Education Department has not passed any such directions yet. So the schools are not accepting self-declaration affidavits, while some schools denied admission to the eligible students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) category in non-entry level classes.
