The festival of Teej was celebrated with great fervour at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha. Girls wearing traditional attires danced to the beats of dhol and sung Punjabi traditional songs related to Punjabi culture and performed giddha and recited boliyan.
Long heik songs, suhaag, sithniyan, folk songs and dances were performed.
Various competitions, including baag phulkari embroidery, knitting, mehndi application, sewaiyan making, dasuti were organised. In mehndi competition, Manpreet Kaur of MA-I (sociology) won the first prize, whereas the second prize was bagged by student of BA-III Yugraj Kaur, while the third prize was won by B Com–III student Manpreet Kaur.
In sewaiyan making, Sanjana of BCom-I won the first prize, Anupreet of BCom-III secured the second spot and Amanjot of BA-I came third. The entire campus wore a festive look.
Principal Dr Narinder Sidhu appreciated the efforts of the students.
Prof Harwinder Kaur, former girls’ wing in charge, GNN College, distributed prizes among winners and motivated them to prepare themselves for greater competitions and popularising Punjabi language and culture.
