Gurbani recitation competition

Patiala: Khalsa Collegiate Senior Secondary School of Khalsa College, Patiala, organised a Gurbani recitation competition for students of Class XI and Class XII under “Sikh Itihas ate Gurbani Kanth Lehar”. Under the guidance of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Amritsar, this competition was organised by the Dharam Prachar Committee. Bhai Baldev Singh Augra and Bhai Jasveer Singh, who were the representatives of the committee, threw light on the contributions made by the Sikh Gurus in the development of the Sikhism and inspired the students to follow the tenets of the Sikhism. Dr Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal and Director Education, SGPC, lauded the efforts of Prachar Committee for organising this kind of competition. He said such competitions were beneficial for students not only in strengthening their historical and religious knowledge but also mould their lives as per the teachings of Gurbani. Harjinder Kaur, in charge of the school, said they had always endeavoured to inspire the students to participate in these competitions and imbue moral and ethical values in them.  A number of students participated in this competition with zeal and fervour.

Two-day national meet kicks off

A two-day national conference on “Skill India: Knowledge and Education”, organised by the Department of Education and Community Service, Punjabi University, Patiala, was inaugurated at Punjabi University on Monday. Rajya Sabha Member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was the chief guest during the inaugural session. Dr Pramod Kumar, Director, Institute for Development and Communication (IDC), Chandigarh, was the keynote speaker of the session. Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh presided over the session. Department Head Dr Kirandeep Kaur introduced the theme of the conference by highlighting the importance of human resource development in Indian context. Dr Pramod Kumar deliberated on universalisation of capital and localisation of labour. He said only e-phenomenon was being globalised. However skills and skilled labour were confined to the local level only. He emphasised on the need to produce intellectuals. He concluded by suggesting the revamping and redesigning of the curriculum at every stage of education. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa stressed upon the integration of lower vocational skills with the higher order vocational skills. Dr Jaspal Singh, in his presidential address, stated that education is not complete if it’s not humane. Education should focus on acquiring wisdom that could be used for the benefit of society. He concluded his address by saying that unless the process of exclusion is stopped, the country can’t develop to its maximum potential. Dr Kulwinder Singh conducted the stage. On this occasion, the souvenir of the conference was also released by the dignitaries. — TNS
