Six supporters of the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) today stabbed Hindustan Students Association (HSA) supporter Sachin Nehra at DAV College here to settle an old score. A clash took place between the supporters of both parties last week.
The police arrested an INSO supporter, Pardeep, who attacked Sachin, in the evening.
An eyewitness revealed that the INSO supporters came to the college in two vehicles and exchanged heated arguments with Sachin and another HSA supporter Harjeet Maan. Sachin had come to the college for admission of his younger brother to BA second-year.
The group of six INSO supporters manhandled both HSA supporters and thrashed them with sticks. Later, Pardeep, the INSO supporter, who had a sharp-edged weapon, attacked Sachin on his right arm and the right side of his chest.
Though the guard closed the gates of the college, he failed single-handedly to stop the six boys who had sharp-edged weapons with them.
The INSO supporters, who were involved in this clash, were Mahinder, Jasbir and Suraj Rana, who is the president of the INSO of DAV College.
Sources revealed that last week there was a heated argument between INSO and HSA supporters on the college premises in which an INSO member slapped one of the HSA supporters at the college. Later, senior leaders of both parties intervened and tried to settle down the conflict between their supporters.
Last year, the HSA won the elections of the college council by defeating INSO candidates. This year, senior leaders of the INSO directed the students to become victorious on prominent posts of the council in the college by hook or crook.
DAV College Principal BC Joshan said taking a serious note of this incident, the college authorities had decided that from Friday only students carrying their fee committee receipt will be allowed to enter the college premises.
The principal said he had written to the Police Department before the commencement of the admission that they should deploy some police personnel outside the college premises to avoid such incidents but no action had been taken so far.
A police official said on the complaint of Harjeet Maan, an FIR had been registered under Sections 147, 148, 149, 307 and 506 against Pardeep, who was the main accused in the attack.
The condition of Sachin is critical who is admitted to the trauma centre of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
