Chandigarh: International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO)-supported school on Mitochondria and Neurodegeneration concluded at Panjab University on Friday. The five-day prestigious school was organised by the PU Biochemistry Department. It provided theoretical and practical training to young researchers from Asia-Pacific region countries such as Iran, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia, Bhutan, Pakistan and India on vide ranging topics related to role of mitochondria in nervous system.

Nominated

The Government of India has nominated Panjab University fellows Prof Ronki Ram and Dr Parmod Kumar as the members of the Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU). The INCCU is formed by the Government of India to serve as a liaison agency between the Government of India and the institutions concerned with the working for the advancement of education, science and culture.

Annual conference

Panjab University, along with the PGIMER, will host the XXXIII annual conference of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences from October 31 to November 2. The conference is being organised on the theme “Neuroscience Research from Mechanisms to Applications”. The conference will address various aspects of neuroscience and neurological disorders and the efforts of the neuroscience community in ameliorating these problems.

Karva Chauth celebrated

The Department of Cosmetology and Beauty Care at DAV College, Sector 10, celebrated Karva Chauth for the first time on its campus. Students and faculty members of the department applied mehndi on the hands of women staff members free of cost. A cultural programme was organised by the students of the department for women staff members. — TNS
