To keep an eye on the unruly elements that create ruckus in Panjab University, the authorities for the first time have made it mandatory to carry the identity (ID) card on the campus.
Dean University Instructions (DUI) today issued instructions that employees, students and research scholars visiting the campus should carry a proof of their identity.
The proof of identity can be asked for by a faculty member, ‘A’ class officer or security personnel. In case the person is unable to prove his or her identity, a photograph can be clicked by the official, if necessary, he added.
DUI Dinesh Gupta said in the past few months, a number of complaints had been received that outsiders were involved in creating problems on the campus. Keeping this in view, an order was issued today which gave powers to various officials and faculty members to check the ID of any students at any time.
He added that these instructions had also been sent to the chairpersons of all the university departments.
Meanwhile, PU chief security officer Jatinder Grover said even in the past also the authorities used to give verbal instructions to the students to carry their ID cards, but the students hardly followed them. In fact, he received complaints from his staff members a number of times that the students denied to show their ID cards. Grover added that the official instructions would empower the security officials in taking action against those who create disturbance on the campus.
