A team of officials from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow, will visit Paonta Sahib on May 20 to take over the charge of a temporary campus selected for starting the maiden session of IIM Paonta Sahib, the first such premier management institute in Himachal.
Issues such as students’ strength for various streams and faculty would also be taken into consideration.
The UPA-II government had announced the setting up of this prestigious institute in Himachal in its last Budget of 2014 and a Central Site Selection Committee had zeroed in on the site for the final campus as well as its temporary campus in March this year.
Prof Bharat Bhaskar from IIM Lucknow, who heads the task force constituted for setting up this institute at Paonta Sahib, will visit the area and take charge of the building belonging to a private institute which has been selected as a temporary campus, said Rajeshwar Goyal, Director Technical Education.
With facilities such as classrooms, hostels, labs, etc., already in place, it was found apt to house the temporary campus.
A site measuring 1,010 bigha at Dhaulakuan has been made available for setting up the main campus and the Ministry of Human Resource Development has also granted its principal approval for this site following the recommendation of the Central Site Selection Committee.
Opening of this institute is a major achievement of the state government and officials of the Technical Education Department were making all-out efforts to facilitate the task force in completing the formalities for opening this institute at Paonta Sahib, which is aptly connected by the neighbouring states and is located on the national highway.
