Inauguration of new block

Anandmurti Gurumaa, a spiritual mentor, inaugurated the new administrative block of Adarsh Public School. The block has been built by Sudhir Sehgal in the fond memory of his parents. It includes new computer lab equipped with 40 computers and a new library with a capacity of 40 students. The event started with a welcome dance. Adarshians put up an amazing performance on the song written by Gurumaa. Eminent personalities of the town presented bouquets to Gurumaa. She delivered a discourse with special emphasis on the education of the girl child. President Vajinder Singh and general secretary Yash Pal Bangia thanked Gurumaa and all.

Athletics meet

The annual athletic meet was conducted at Green Grove Public School. The school band rocked the arena as students presented a march past while president JPS Jolly along with principal S George and vice-principal Ronald received the salute. It was followed by an oath-taking ceremony by the head boy, head girl, house captains and vice captains. Soon after, a torch was lit and the head boy took the lead for the torch run.

The school invited Jaspreet Kaur of Mohanpur village along with the sarpanch to honour her for her national-level achievement in football. After the address, various games were held for parents who eagerly participated and the spirit of sports alive. Finally, the closing ceremony march past was followed by lowering of the flag and declaring the meet closed. For the final entertainment, western dance and a colourful Haryanvi dance was performed by Class III and IV. The day came to an end with the vote of thanks followed by the school anthem and the National Anthem.

Talent hunt programme

At Saraswati Modern Senior Secondary School, Hambran Road, children in age group 1 to 8 participated in a baby show and talent hunt programme. Dressed in glittering attires, the little ones walked the ramp confidently and enthralled the audience by giving witty answer to various questions put up by judges. Children also underwent a health check-up. The winners in every category were declared on the basis of presentation, health, spontaneity and agility. Aarna, Samardeep Singh, Kashish, Ridhima and Dishita were declared winners in various categories.

Oral test for AITSE

After the successful conduct of All-India Talent Search Examination-2014 on December 7, 2014, by the Children’s Education Trust, the oral test for AITSE (2014) was conducted at BCM Senior Secondary School, Sec 32-A, Chandigarh Road. An interview board of three persons was constituted, which included Shikha Uppal, Savita Dhawan and Meena Sharma for English, general science and maths (taken together) and GK, respectively.

AITSE (oral test) motivated the students towards healthy competitive spirit among their peers at the national level and provided them a platform to nurture their talent, stated a press release issued by the school.

Prize distribution function

Great Mother High School, Kakowal Road, celebrated the annual prize distribution function ‘My Show 2014-15’. Nitasha of Class V won the student of the year award. Jasmin of KG and Neha of Class IV won the most regular student of the year award. Students of the Kindergarten rocked the show with demonstration of their yoga skills. The skit ‘Rotten Tomatoes’ sent across the message “Do not hate others”. Students embodied the essence of Basakhi with the performance of bhangra. Mandakani was declared the best house of the year. The principal said, “Many leaders who will take responsibility for world peace in the 21st century are sure to emerge from this school.”

BBPS holds Yogathan

Taking a step forward in the direction of improving and maintaining the health of its students, Bal Bharti Public School (BBPS) organized a Yoga-based activity ‘Yogathan – A Way of Life’. It was conducted to educate, inspire and generate awareness about the positive impact of Yoga on health. The resource person and his team told the students that in addition to Yoga’s well-known benefits of increased strength, stamina and flexibility, a regular Yoga practice has been scientifically proven to enhance overall the ability. Though immense health benefits of Yoga have been proven countless times, BBPS took an opportunity to let the students experience it for themselves and share its physical and mental effects.

Various poses and asanas were demonstrated before the students and the students also enthusiastically performed them. They were also updated about the benefits of various asanas such as Sukhasana — stretches the spine, Savasana — provides relaxation to mind and body, Dandsana — prepares one for other asanas, Swastikasana — tones abdominal muscles and sciatic nerve, Vajrasana — relaxes knee caps, knees, ankles and feet and helps in digestion process.

Principal Punam Dogra oversaw the activity and shared her views with the students. She said if someone was craving for a solution to regain his mental peace, Yoga was the only solution. She appreciated the efforts and the interest shown by the students and urged them to adopt Yoga as a part of their daily schedule.

File decoration contest

The primary wing of classes III to V of Tagore Public School, Birmi village, Ludhiana, participated in a file decoration competition. Students used glitter, buttons, dust tape, pearls, ribbons and colourful papers to decorate their files and note books.
