Chandigarh, August 2
Impressed by the intelligence of Indian students, the principal and assistant principal of McLean High School, Virginia (USA), believe that children in the US need to cover a long distance to match qualities of Indian students.
Principal Ellen Reilly, and assistant principal Paige Whitlock, who were in Chandigarh to attend the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference that concluded at Bhavan Vidalaya School, Sector 27, said the Indian students were much more interactive, passionate, energetic and focused.
“Students here are more interactive and passionate. They are focused. Even a Class IX student is well aware about his/her goal but the children in the US are distracted. They study, play and are more socially active, which, we believe, is somehow making them a little bit of reserved in studies. Indian children are more bold and fluent. The children in the US are a bit shy,” Reilly and Whitlock added.
They further said, “In India, parents do come forward without hesitation to support their children.”
On their experience during the conference, assistant principal Paige Whoitlock added, “I am not sure if it’s correct to say but some of our students were furious. They just want to be the best and failed to adapt to the environment here. In our contingent, we have best students from our school and they are well aware about topics related to our region and the Europe. The local students too have the knowledge of their region. So, the local students have an edge.”
When asked about Indian students’ interest in the American universities, the duo added, “This is a good question and seriously we are very much surprised. We have observed a good way of learning here and the behavior of students is also good. If this is a sample, then our universities have much more to offer.”
