Iron tablets given to 67,000 Jind students

The Civil Surgeon’s office today resumed the weekly iron folic acid supplement (WIFS) drive in the government schools of this district by distributing iron tablets among 67,000 students. The drive was started under the supervision of Jind Chief Medical Officer Sanjay Dahiya, who distributed the tablets at Government Senior Secondary School (Girls) near Bharat Cinema here.

“More than 60 per cent of children in government schools, mostly girls, are facing anaemic due to iron deficiency”, said Dr Dahiya. Senior physician Rajesh Bhola said health workers would be deployed in villages to distribute these iron tablets among school dropouts in the 12—18 age group, Bhola added.—OC
