Irregularities in delegating examination duties have allegedly come to the fore in the ongoing Class X board examinations in the district.

Several complaints regarding centres at Government High School, Baloki, Government High School, Padhiana, and Government Senior Secondary School, Ladhewali, have been made to PSEB board chairperson.

Board rules say officials can only get exemption from exam duty, while on medical leave. These say students of duty staff member’s spouse should not appear for the exam at his or her centre. However, Deputy Superintendent Daswinder Singh at the Government High School (GHS), Padhiana, has three of his relatives’ students appearing for exams at the centre.

At GHS, Padhiana, students of Government High Schools in Kalra and Gharial are appearing for Class X exams even though Daswinder’s wife is Hindi mistress at GHS, Kalra and his sister Bhupinder Kaur is headmistress at the same school. His brother Bhupinder Kumar is also a social studies master at Government High School, Gharial.

Surinder Kumar, headmaster-cum-controller of GHS, Padhiana, said, “Daswinder’s posting at the school is valid. He was the only teacher available to be deputed at the school. Daswinder’s children are not appearing for exams at the school. We haven’t broken any board rules.”

At Government High School, Baloki, two superintendents have been changed to allegedly help an examinee (roll no. 1015681994) – take exams at the centre. The said examinee is a nephew of a clerk posted with the District Education Officer. He is also the son of a senior lab assistant at the Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mehatpur.

The two superintendents were changed at Baloki, Rashmi, and Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mehatpur. Narinder Singh, a lecturer at Government School, Bhullar, has also been shifted. Rachpal Singh has been appointed as a superintendent there.

The duties of two of the invigilators at the centre were also changed. New persons – one from Government Senior Secondary School, Mehatpur, – where the said examinee’s father is posted, have been appointed in their place.

At Government Senior Secondary School, Ladhewali, superintendent Bairagi Singh was changed and Angrez Singh, another teacher, appointed superintendent. District Education Officer (DEO), Secondary, Harinder Pal, said, “If the students of an examiner’s wife are profiting from his posting at Padhiana centre, then we will immediately get the said employee relieved from exam duty before the Hindi exam.”

He further said, “However, examiners were posted with a lot of care and no irregularities have been allowed in schools. At Baloki, Superintendent Rashmi was changed because her house was far from the school. I have checked the centre and no cheating took place there. We are not assisting any employee. At the Ladhewali centre, the first superintendent sent a written request to get the centre changed because his son – from Khalsa School – was appearing at the open centre there.”

The PSEB board chairman, Dr Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, said, “We have deputed special observers at the Baloki centre to make sure no cheating takes place. We will also check the remaining centres.”
