Chandigarh, August 17
City’s government schools will soon get mid-day meal from Akshaya Patra kitchen of ISKCON Temple, Sector 36.
Confirming the same, an official of the UT Education Department said: “The department has received a proposal regarding the same. A meeting between the department and ISKCON temple members is scheduled for August 29, in which the department is expected to give a nod to the proposal.”
He said getting mid-day meal from the Akshaya Patra kitchen was a step towards ensuring hygienic and nutritious food for students.
In March this year, local MP Kirron Kher had recommended that the Education Department should get mid-day meal for government school students from the Akshaya Patra kitchen.
Significantly, there are nearly 42,000 students studying in 111 government schools of the city. While seven schools provide mid-day meal to their students, others get it from CITCO and the Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management.
