Now, students of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) who pass English paper along with one additional choice subject will be awarded Class XII arts certificate by the state open school.
State Technical Education Minister GS Bali stated this at the closing ceremony of the 21st Inter-Polytechnic Sports Meet for Boys today.
Terming it a revolutionary step, he said the matter had been taken up with the Board of School Education for granting equivalency certificate of Class XII.
Bali said there were 104 ITIs, 15 government polytechnics and four engineering colleges in the state, adding that efforts were on to provide quality education to the students as well as job opportunities for technically qualified people.
Concerned over the rising number of unemployed youths in the state, crossing the 10 lakh mark, he said in order to overcome the problem, technical education should be imparted to both boys and girls.
At present, the number of girls was far less than the boys in technical institutions, the minister said. He exhorted the girls to come forward and join the ITIs, polytechnics and engineering colleges for a better future.
Bali said educational institutions should have hoarding sensitising the youth against the ill-effects of drugs.
Earlier, Bali inaugurated the boys’ hostel for 200 students. He also announced Rs 5 lakh for the basketball court, Rs 10 lakh for the maintenance of the campus and digging a borewell. In the three-day sports meet, 460 students from 14 polytechnics participated.
