Jamia students bag top spot

The team from Jamia Millia Islamia, comprising Zahra Khan, Shreya Shukla and Riskika Jain, bagged the top position in the sixth edition of a national moot court competition, Chekmate-2016, at the Army Institute of Law (AIL), Mohali.

The team from Amity Law School, Delhi, comprising Tanesha Sultan, Utkarsh Maria and Himangi Kapoor, remained runner-up. The top two teams received a cash award of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.

Over 40 teams from several national law colleges and universities of the country participated in the three-day event. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala.

The best memorial award was given to Damodaram Sanjiviya from the National Law University, Vishakhapatnam, while the second best memorial award went to the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, Chandigarh. The advocate of the year award was won by Mayank Partap Singh of the Faculty of Laws, Rajasthan University. The second position in the category was bagged by Kunal Kapoor of the UILS.

Lt Gen KJ Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lt Gen Gurdeep Singh, Chief of Staff, Western Command, and KTS Tulsi, Member of Parliament, were also present on the occasion. — TNS
