Unlike previous years, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, has decided to allow even the students who have not appeared in the JEE main to take admission into BTech on the basis of their Class XII result through online centralised counselling this year.
The IKG-PTU, which will hold admission to its own colleges and those of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, will allot seats to such students in the second round of counselling.
A change in the plan has been made because many seats were left vacant in the counselling, the tally of which the university aims to bring down this year.
Besides, as there are orders that only those students who get a seat through counselling will be eligible for the SC Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the university wants all students to get routed through counselling to avail the benefit.
Earlier, those students who had not appeared in the JEE used to take direct admission to the colleges after the university closed its counselling.
The university authorities had been contemplating to hold a third round of counselling, but then they worked out a new plan to ensure that the admission process did not get prolonged.
Dean (Academics) Dr Buta Singh said, “All students, be it those who have appeared for the entrance or not have to get registered with us, the process for which is currently on. In the first round, we will allot seats to only those students who have appeared in the entrance. In the second round, choice filling will be done by both categories of students — those who have appeared for the test and those who have not and are trying to get a seat on the basis of Class XII marks. We will first allot the seats to the JEE passouts. The left seats in the same round will then be allotted to the second category of students and the result of both will be declared together. The entire process, including reporting to the allotted colleges after round two, will be over by July 22.”
