Dehradun, July 15 

Kanishk Kakar was awarded the best speaker title at the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School English Debate Competition (preliminary round) organised by Unison World School here today. St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun, bagged the winner’s trophy and qualified for the next level.

The debate lasted for almost two hours. The rebuttal rounds were extremely interesting and displayed vehement conviction skills of the speakers. Earlier, Shanti Sarup, former headmaster of Colonel Brown Cambridge School, inaugurated the competition by lighting a lamp. Ratna Manucha, principal of Little Flower School; Dayita Bira Datta, vice-principal of Welham Girls’ School, and Rachna Malhotra, senior English teacher, Rashtriya Military College, Dehradun, were the judges of the competition. The topic for the debate was “Today, friends have replaced family”.
