The National Institute of Design (NID) will start admissions from the current academic session following approval by the Central government.
The classes would be held in the polytechnic college as the construction of the NID campus is yet to begin at Umri village.
Union Minister of Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman had reportedly given approval to begin the academic session from this year.
Thought the district administration is yet to receive an official communication in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Rajnarayan Kaushik said it had been agreed in principle that polytechnic complex located adjoining to the NID compound would be used till the construction work is completed. The PWD is working to ensure smooth access to the NID’s transit campus from the NH-1, the DC added.
Meanwhile, sources said the admission dates would be announced soon for as many as 500 seats.
The foundation stone of the institute was laid on May 23, 2013. The institute would be raised in technical collaboration with Japan with special emphasis on faculty-exchange programmes.
The Union Minister has also approved setting up of NID campuses in Hyderabad, Goa, Varanasi and Jaipur. The NID’s first campus was established in Ahmedabad in 1961 followed by second in Vijaywada.
