Keeping in mind the psychological side of mental stigma a student faces if going to a special institute for learning programmes, St Kabir Public School has opened the first learning disability remedial centre on the school premises.
Gurpreet Bakshi, administrator, St Kabir Public School, said, “We have always tried to take a holistic view of the situation as an educational institution and try to provide facilities not only to our school students but to the entire tricity.”
The school in association with Empower Ode is also organising a two-day workshop and a national level conference ‘Empower – 2016’ from Wednesday. Eminent speakers like Kate Currawala of ‘Tare Zameen Pe’ fame, Lalitha Ramanujan, a pioneer in the intellectual difficulties and a national awardee, and Anupama Sethi , a certified student transformation specialist brain trainer will take part. The panel discussion for the conference will be moderated and concluded by Dr Manju Jaidka, Dr Deepti Shastri, Vivek Atray, Savita Bhatti , Rajni Sekhri Sibal and Vimla Venkateshan.
The workshops and conference will deliberate on topics like visual perceptions, need of educating the key stakeholders like schools, principals and parents, importance of resource room working through dyslexia therapist and alternate educational methods.
