On the outskirts of the main city lies a Government Primary School at Jaisinghpura village in Sector 27. Technically, the school has five teachers for 107 students but when this correspondent visited the school, only one teacher was managing all five classes. One teacher was on maternity leave, while three had gone for a meeting.
Adjoining a temple and next to farms, the school has adequate area which has been poorly used. The playground in front of the building is prohibited for children and they play behind the main building which becomes a bowl of dust whenever they play there.
The front ground is small and has a decent grass cover but the teachers do not allow children to even walk on it. The boundary wall on one side of the building is nonexistent and tree branches, twigs and other natural material is used for the boundary.
The almost 40-year-old building does not have enough rooms and classes are held outside in corridors. Children sit on the floor for want of benches even inside the classes. The classrooms are dimly lit and the outdated structures are in need of repair.
The condition of toilets is poor and the adjoining drinking water facility is full of algae. Neither is a water purifier installed nor there is a proper drainage system for water. However, the school head insists that there is no problem in the school.
