Little time left, varsity in a spot over PMET

Faridkot, December 7
The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) is in a spot as it has little time to make arrangements to hold the Pre-Medical Entrance Test.
The Punjab government has decided to opt out of the All-India Pre-Medical Entrance Test (AIPMT) and conduct its own entrance test for MBBS and BDS aspirants.
The CBSE has already released the schedule for the AIPMT. The last date for the submission of AIPMT application is December 31. The test will be held on May 5.
In contrast, the BFUHS is yet to finalise the details. It has sent a draft schedule for the PMET to the Medical Education Department for its approval. The university will release the schedule after getting a go-ahead on the matter.
Sources said the university was facing difficulty since the post of Vice Chancellor had been lying vacant for the past over one month.
There are 14 states, including the neighbouring Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh, which will make admissions to the medical colleges on the basis of the AIPMT rankings.
Many aspirants and their parents are approaching the authorities to enquire about the schedule of the PMET-2015. They say there is no clarity on the matter as the university is yet to get the approval for the prospectus or information bulletin for the test.
When contacted, Dr DS Sidhu, registrar, BFUHS, said the university was making all efforts to conduct the test on time.
