Ludhiana: A magic show was organised at Peace Public School. Students got completely engrossed in the amazing tricks. They were also given gifts for their participation in various activities.

Plantation day

Tree plantation day was observed at Gobindgarh Public School. School principal Shalini Khullar planted a sapling to make the students aware about the importance of the plants in our life.

Students salute community helpers

Students of Police DAV Public School, Police Lines, saluted the community helpers. A week-long activity was held where the students came dressed as various community helpers such as doctors, cobblers, fruit sellers and teachers. The tiny tots confidently recited rhymes and elucidated their roles to the audience. Many aspired to become doctors and engineers. The winners were awarded ‘certificate of achievement’. Principal Dr Anu Verma appreciated the efforts of the students for their flawless and enthralling show.

Sports event

Various sports events were conducted for junior students at Ram Lal Bhasin Public School, Dugri. Students from classes I-V took part in various events, including 100-m race. The objective of the event was to make students self-confident and to recreate and re-energise them from their daily busy schedule.

Declamation contest

Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex (Central Zone) Inter-School English Declamation Contest was organised at Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar Bypass. Students from 30 CBSE schools participated from the Central Zone. They spoke on burning issues, including Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, the architect of life – mother, it is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves, peace rules the day where reason rules the mind, selfies - creative self expression or mindless self –obsession, a thing of beauty is a joy forever, being powerful is like being a lady, natural disasters are a wake-up call for humanity. The winners’ trophy was awarded to KVM, Civil Lines, and runners-up trophy was awarded to Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town. Among individual prizes, the first prize was bagged by two students Pahul Sharma from BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, and Gurjas Singh of Guru Nanak International School, Model Town. Meanwhile, the second prize was given to Smridhi from BVM School and Muskan Gumber from KVM, Civil Lines, and the third prize went to Surnima Poddar from KVM, Civil Lines, and Dilpreet Kaur of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar.

Science and math exhibition

A science and math exhibition was conducted at DCM Presidency School. Students prepared a number of working and educational exhibits on various themes from science and technology to renewable energy, agriculture to astronomy, working model of dynamo, air pressure gun, periscope, wending machine, working model of trigonometric ratios, 2-D and 3-D shaped models. Poonam Bansal, HoD Science Department, said these days, students learn better when they apply their knowledge in relation to what they are taught. In order to enhance the thinking skills of the students and make them work on real-world projects, a smart-city project was exhibited in the lab of the school. The students planned a smart-city project wherein efficient use of energy, autonomous functioning and renewable sources of energy were focused. Principal Nupur Nutan congratulated the students and teachers and said such academic activities foster the interest of the students in the subjects like physics, chemistry, math and biology.

Dell Champ competition

A city-level Dell Champ competition was organised at BCM Senior Secondary School, Sector 32-A, Chandigarh Road. Six teams participated in the final round. Questions were based on science, IT, English and general knowledge. Slide questionnaire was provided to the six final teams to select the final winner. Class VI student Chetan grabbed the trophy. Principal DP Guleria congratulated the winner and said these competitions help in grooming the personalities of the students.

Class presentation

A class presentation was organised at BCM Senior Secondary School, Basant City. Students participated enthusiastically in various items like group song, dance, role play and modeling. An English play based on the ‘importance of colours’ was also performed. The students also emphasised on the ‘importance of traffic lights and safety rules’ through a presentation. Principal Amarjyoti Chawla appreciated the efforts of students, teachers and staff members.

Quiz organised

A quiz was organised for class III students at Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town. There were four rounds comprising English, maths, GK and current affairs.

Workshop for teachers

An ELT workshop for primary teachers of various schools of Ludhiana was organised at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar. As many as 100 teachers from Ludhiana, Khanna, Raikot and Jagraon attended the workshop which was conducted by Mukesh Shelat, a master trainer for CCE from the CBSE. He emphasised the need for VAK (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Training) for students in order to make classroom teaching more effective. Teachers were apprised about Howard Gardener’s theory of Multiple Intelligences. Teachers were motivated to create conducive classroom atmosphere by being flexible and accepting change. Shelat talked about English teaching at the primary level. Teachers were apprised about various language skills in order to improve teaching. Novel ways to improve spelling techniques were also introduced to the teachers. Principal Mona Singh said such sessions were imperative to improve the quality of teaching and to apprise the teachers about changes continuously taking place in the field of classroom teaching.

Teej celebrated

Teej was celebrated at Alpine International School. Students staged various folk dances of Punjabi culture like giddha, bhangra, tappe, etc. The venue was equipped to give adequate information to the new generation about Punjabi culture through various stalls of traditional dishes like sarason ka saag and makki di rotti with a glass of lassi, mehndi and rangoli.

Rakhi-making competition

Samrala: Max Arthur Macauliffe Public School, Samrala, organised a healthy favourite sweet dish competition for students of Kindergarten section to mark Teej celebrations. Even rakhi-making and mehndi competition were held.

Capacity building programme

Phillaur: A one-day workshop on ‘capacity building programme’ was held at DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur, in which chemistry teachers from 17 different DAV schools participated. Academic activities regarding the same were discussed to generate interest amongst students. Yogesh Gambhir dwelled on the need of innovative teaching methods to enhance students’ interest in the subject. — TNS
