Ludhiana: Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated at SDP Senior Secondary School, Basti Jodhewal, under the guidance of president Balraj Kumar Bhasin (SDP Sabha Regd). Students delivered a lecture on the life history of Lord Mahavira.
BVM SCHOOL
A soulful bhajan sung by BVMites lent solace to every soul. Neeta Sawhney, a senior teacher, delved on the austere life and fundamental teachings of Lord Mahavira who gave five principles of ‘Satya, Ahimsa, Asteya, Brahamcharya and Aprigraha’ to live a pure and serene life. Principal Bandana Sethi extended her greetings to all and exhorted the students to follow the teachings of Lord Mahavira, practice non-violence, truthfulness and forgiveness in their life and have compassion for their fellow beings.
POEM RECITATION COMPETITION
A poem recitation competition was organised wherein students from each class recited three poems in chorus. The students were judged on the basis of synchronisation, presentation and pronunciation. Principal D Narang emphasised on the need of such competitions which result in the overall development of the personality of the students. Students of Class V stood first, Class IV-A stood second while Class IV-B stood third.
WORLD HERITAGE DAY
World Heritage Day was celebrated at BCM Kindergarten, Basant Vihar, with great zeal and fervour. A special assembly was conducted and teachers told the importance of monuments and showed a PowerPoint presentation of different monuments. They took pledge to save the heritage. Principal Dr Vandana Shahi said, “It is our moral duty to save the heritage and culture of the world. School is a platform where we train students to understand the importance of various cultures and acquire a sense of preserving them.”
RYAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, DUGRI
Students of Montessori to class I were taken for a visit to the PAU Museum to show them cultural items displayed there. Class II students participated in a declamation contest on different cultures of the world while students of classes III-V participated in a cultural dance competition. Moreover, students of Class VI onwards participated in a poster-making competition related to different cultures existing in the world. The students were also made aware about different historical monuments and their significance in the society. Headmistress of the school Ritu Syal said students must have knowledge and understand the importance of culture of their respective states.
GREEN LAND SR. SEC. PUBLIC SCHOOL
An inter-house poster making competition on the theme of ‘India’s Culture and Heritage’ was held. Students of classes IX-X showcased their caliber and creativity by making beautiful posters depicting the rich Indian heritage belonging to different states and regions. Principal Baldeep Pandey encouraged the students to attain the real and valuable knowledge of their cultural roots through assorted means of communication and technology. Rohini and Sukhmani (Class X) of Jyoti House bagged the first prize. Sanam, Lubanshi and Kamaljeet (Class X) of Jagriti and Kirti House got the second prize while Ravneet and Navraaj (Class IX) of Shakti House along with Yamini and Ishita (Class X) of Kirti House secured the third position. Simran and Sanya (Class X) of Shakti House got the consolation prize.
GREEN LAND CONVENT SCHOOL
The day was observed with an aim to create awareness among students to conserve and protect the valuable assets and cultural heritage across the world. An inter-house Punjabi declamation competition for classes VI to XI was conducted. The students exhibited their talents by expressing their thoughts and views on different topics highlighting their oratory skills. Meanwhile, a thematic board decoration competition was also conducted for classes II to V. Principal Jyoti said the day celebrates the diversity of heritage throughout the world and encouraged them to be a part in the progress, unity and integrity.
EDUCATIONAL VISIT
Class XII medical students of KVM School, Civil Lines, paid an educational visit to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). In his address to the students, Principal Dr Sandeep Puri said no doubt, medicine was one of the noblest professions, but it needs passion and empathy for your patients to be a competent and successful doctor. The students got an excellent opportunity to know about the functioning of various departments of the hospital, including emergency area, medicine wards, surgery wards, OT and recovery, blood bank, various laboratory areas. They also interacted with doctors of various specialties and learnt about basic functioning of different areas of the hospital.
The visiting students were also introduced to x-ray machine, CT scan machine, MRI machine, ultrasound machine and other imaging system equipment. The functionality of ECG, EEG, EMG and defibrillator along with the electrode system was also demonstrated to the students.
