As many as 13 institutes running Bachelor of Education (B Ed) course in Jhajjar, Rewari and Mahendragarh districts will not be able to make admissions to the course in the coming academic session.

Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, has put these institutes under no-admission category after finding them guilty of not following the norms set by the NCTE to run the course. Moreover, the fear of losing affiliation to run the course is also looming large on many of the institutes.

The development has created a stir among the college owners, who have submitted representations to the Vice Chancellor seeking reconsideration of the decision.

The authorities learned that several colleges running B Ed course were not observing the norms of minimum 200 days teaching and 75 per cent attendance for making a candidate eligible for appearing in examination, as per the NCTE norms.

“The university officials conducted surprise inspections in 22 colleges in February and March, to find out whether or not they were observing the norms and standards of the university. Several deficiencies were found during the inspection, on the basis of which the colleges were served show cause notices for withdrawing their provisional affiliation,” sources stated.

MDU Registrar, Satpal Vats, confirmed that all these colleges would not be considered for admissions to B Ed course, following the decision of the academic council, which found their reply to the show cause notice unsatisfactory, at its meeting held recently.

“Among the 22 colleges, six have been put under non-admission category while remaining 16 have been placed under non-admission as well as disaffiliation category. Now, the matter will finally be discussed at a meeting of the Executive Council (EC), slated for next month,” Vats added.
