Ludhiana, November 8

The 7th International Symposium of the Indian Meat Science Association on ‘new horizons for augmenting meat production and processing to ensure nutritional security, food safety and environmental sustainability’ will be held from November 10-12.

The Department of Livestock Products Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, and the Indian Meat Science Association will organise the conference.

Manish Kumar Chatli, head of the department, said a workshop on “Food Quality and Safety” had been planned, along with the conference, to give hands-on training to meat scientists in latest techniques related to meat inspection, egg quality, methods of quality evaluation and packaging.

He said an event ‘Industry-Academia-Farmers Interface’ would be organised to bring together all stake holders of the meat industry on a single platform.

The conference is likely to be attended by 300 scientists, academicians, researchers and postgraduate students from across the world. Tom Graham, Senior Director, National Inspection Division, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, will inaugurate the workshop and Dr Harpreet Kochhar, Chief Veterinary Officer, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, will be chief guest.

Chatli said the conference was aimed at carrying out discussions and presentations to design the strategies related to scientific slaughter with animal welfare, hygienic processing, packaging, preservation, food safety and quality assurance programs.
