Students were awarded prizes for meritorious performance in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities during the annual prize distribution function at GGDSD College, Sector 32 today.

In appreciation of their brilliant performance, 46 students were awarded the roll of honour while 57 students received the college colour. As many as 165 students were awarded certificate of distinction while 608 students received certificate of merit. Eleven faculty members were felicitated and awarded cash prize of Rs 5,000 each for completing their PhD during the current academic session. Prof Prakash Gopalan, Director, Thapar University, Patiala was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing students, Prof Prakash Gopalan urged them to be passionate about achieving their goals and work with single minded dedication. Make yourself immune to the distractions around you. Stay humble and work hard to make your parents proud, he added while appreciating the stupendous university results achieved by the students of GGDSD College. As many as 952 students were awarded during the function. Principal Dr Bhushan Kumar Sharma presented the annual report of the college and shared the achievements of the college during the year 2015-16. He said PG students of the college bagged top 10 merit positions in Panjab University, while 36 students of undergraduate courses bagged top 10 positions in the university.

The faculty was actively engaged in research and got grants from national and international agencies for research work. In sports, students won 77 gold medals, 100 silver medals and 79 bronze medals. The college won six prizes in PU Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival besides winning the overall trophy at the Zonal level, said Dr Bhushan.
