Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay inaugurated the nanotechnology centre at Kumaon University last evening.
The newly inaugurated centre will produce nano particles by using grapheme and germane for industrial production.
“We have also decided to make nano herbal medicines and new devices to produce solar energy at the centre,” said Dr Nand Gopal Sahu, the newly appointed in-charge of the centre at Kumaon University in Nainital.
The MP had earlier allocated Rs 50 lakh for the centre from his MPLAD funds.
“The money was granted to the centre after the Prime Minister’s appeal to use the MPLAD funds for the promotion of science and technology in the country,” said the Rajya Sabha MP.
Vice-Chancellor of Kumaon University, HS Dhami, said his dream had come true with the help of the MP. He had envisioned the centre at the time of his taking charge as the V-C, he added.
MP Tarun Vijay promised that he would try his best to get help for the centre from the Union Government so that it could take new initiatives in the field of nano technology.
“We have to prove that ancient India was the global centre of learning and science,” said the Rajya Sabha MP.
