NIT Hamirpur ranked 51st in NIRF ranking

The National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, was ranked 51st engineering college in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), a survey of the country’s educational institutions approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Among all 17 NITs, it is ranked 13th.
Despite a big difference in rankings issued by private players (placing the institute in the top-30) and the government, NIT Hamirpur director Rajnish Shrivastav claimed the NIT was the best managed institute in the state.
The NIT Hamirpur was ranked 23rd a survey conducted by outlook india.com in 2010.
In comparison to regional institutes such as IIT-Mandi, Thapar University, the NIT Hamirpur lacks “planning, infrastructure, e-resources and funds for overall maintenance.” The NIRF was launched by the MHRD on September, 2015, after its core committee set up parameters to gauge the performance of the NIT, IITs and other institutions in the country. These parameters are teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practices (RPC), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI) and perception (PR).
Some NIT faculty accused the director of centralising power and giving them no freedom to work. Refuting faculty claims, the NIT director said, “The institute will not be run as per the faculty’s whims and fancy. Teachers are responsible for academic achievements, not the director.”
