Chandigarh, January 5
Panjab University is going to hold a special interactive session for school students with Noble Peace Prize winner (2014) and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi and noted mathematician Prof Manjul Bhargava on March 14.
PU Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover said this interaction would be organised specially for the economically weaker schools (EWS) students of the city .
He said it was for the first time that the university was holding an event not for campus students but for schoolchildren only.
PU spokesperson said both dignitaries would receive the Panjab University Honorary Degree from President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
Pranab Mukherjee is going to visit the PU for delivering a convocation address during the annual convocation of the university on March 14. During the convocation, medals, prizes and degrees will be awarded to the students passing examinations in 2014.
Kailash Satyarthi and Prof Manjul Bhargava would receive the Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) and the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa), respectively.
The PU spokesperson said it would be the third convocation to be addressed by Mukherjee at the PU. Pranab Mukherjee would be the fifth President of India who would be delivering the convocation address at the PU.
Earlier, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Giani Zail Singh, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy and Dr Rajinder Prasad had delivered the convocation addresses in 2007, 1985, 1981 and 1951, respectively, he said.
