Chandigarh, June 12

Patients coming not only to the OPD but also to the emergency of the GMCH-32 can now access their laboratory investigation reports online. The initiative aimed at staggering the crowd in OPDs and emergency, is the brainchild of Director-Principal, GMCH-32, Dr Atul Sachdev and IT Department Head, GMCH-32, Dr Sudhir Garg.

While the hospital has been running the system for OPD patients for the past month-and-a-half, the service has been extended to emergency only recently.

Talking about the system, Dr Sachdev said the reports of patients coming to the Departments of Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Pathology had been made online. He added that on an average, 4,000 tests were run on patients coming to GMCH-32 everyday. “The system has streamlined the administration work and lessened the turn-overtime at the report collection counter. Patients do not have to wait in long queues like before to collect their reports,” he said.

Dr Garg said accessing reports online was quick and easy. Just three details — Unique Health Identification number (UHID), mobile number and the computer-generated password — were required to access the report,” he informed.

Dr Garg further said the process to make the reports accessible to doctors was underway.

Dr Sudhir Garg, Head, Information Technology, GMCH-32, said “The facility was started 15 days ago. In the next step, doctors would have an access to lab reports of the patients on their screens.”

Dr Garg said an order for the purchase of 100 computers to be installed in various departments of the hospital had been placed. “They will be installed in another 10-15 days and will enable the doctors to access the reports online,” he informed.
