As many as 60 fake identity cards were recovered from the students in December last year to access AC Joshi library at Panjab University.
Interestingly, it is hard to make out the difference between the fake and original ID cards which are to be shown at the entrance of the library. The fake ID card not only carries the forged signature of officials, including librarian and Dean Student Welfare but also mentions the department and of enrollment.
PU Chief Librarian Raj Kumar said he also could not make out the difference between fake and the original ID card. Only error he could spot was his signature on the back side of the card. It was incorrect. He said last month, he checked ID cards at the entry gate of the library for three to four hours in a day and seized around 50 fake ID cards produce.
He said the students using fake ID cards never got any books issued from the library but only accessed the sitting area. He said, "A proposal of issuing smart cards to the students has already been sent; so that no forgery can be done."
PU Chief Security Officer Jatinder Grover said, "There are students who are accessing the campus also through fake ID card of the library."
