Over Rs17-crore grant for 47 state govt colleges

The state government has released a financial grant of Rs 17.55 crore to all 47 government colleges of the state to ensure the strengthening of infrastructure for higher education and providing quality and subsidised education to the youth.
Higher Education and Languages Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra said the grant would go a long way in strengthening of infrastructural facilities in the colleges as well as upgrade of two colleges as model colleges.
Giving details of the grants issued to all 47 government colleges of the state, the minister said of these, 37 government colleges had been given Rs 14.25 crore for strengthening the infrastructure. Each college would get
Rs 37.5 lakh and would
be equipped with latest facilities.
He said two government colleges at Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana would be developed as model colleges at a cost of Rs 75 lakh each.
He said 13 colleges situated at Ajnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Tanda Urmur, SCD Government College, Ludhiana, Government College Ludhiana, Mansa, Dhudike, Mohindra College Patiala, Sunam and Tarn Taran would get Rs 92.62 lakh for vocational education. Each college would get Rs 7.125 lakh grant.
The minister said all 47 colleges had been given Rs 88.125 lakh as equity grant under which each college would get Rs 1.875 lakh. He said equity grant was only for the students of weaker sections and girls.
