The Panjab University authorities have decided to add another helpline for anti-ragging complaints from this year. This was decided at the anti-ragging committee meeting today.
Members of the committee suggested that last year the authorities had introduced a helpline and keeping in view the safety of students, the university would introduce another helpline this year.
Last year, two cases of ragging were reported, of which one was reported in February 2015 by a girl residing in the hostel number 7 and another by a research scholar against a senior fellow. But when the ragging committee investigated the cases, it found personnel rivalry behind the complaints. In the past three years, no incident of ragging has been reported to the committee except the fake complaints.
Student outfits condemn admission norms
The Youth Welfare Association (YUWA), Panjab University, has condemned the university admission norms, alleging that the admission procedure was unfavorable towards the students who come from far-off areas. YUWA president Rahul Dabral, a research scholar and a resident of Garhwal, Uttarakhand, said there were students who belonged to other states but the admission process was biased against them. Student leader Manoj Lubana submitted a memorandum to the university authorities, highlighting the issues.
