The PEC University of Technology is planning to add 175 seats in all five streams from the academic session 2016-17. The proposal, after getting the approval from the Senate, will be tabled in the Board of Governance meeting for its implementation in the institute.
The Senate approved 35 seats each in five streams, including computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering and civil engineering.
At present, there are 75 seats each in the five streams. Officials said the PEC had the infrastructure and all facilities available to increase the seat intake, signaling at the new academic block that was launched recently.
PEC offers undergraduate courses in eight streams and currently, has an intake capacity of 505 in all these eight streams. As under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA)-2016, a scheme of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, 15 per cent of the sanctioned seats are for foreign students, 10 additional seats in each of the five streams will also be added under the DASA.
PEC for the first time had participated in the centralised counselling for MTech (CCMT-2016) and had offered 226 seats, of which 202 seats were filled in the first round of counselling.
The admission to the undergraduate courses will start after the CBSE releases the rankings of the JEE (Advanced), which is calculated by taking into account Class XII score and JEE score. As the CBSE is expected to announce the rankings on June 27, the registration process will start on the same day tentatively. Moreover, the online registrations for ME and PhD programmes will start from June 13 and continue till June 21.
