Ludhiana: A day dedicated to teachers, the nation builders, was celebrated with traditional sanity, reverence and ritualistic piety at Partap College of Education. Principal Dr Balwant Singh presided over the function. Teacher-trainees and teacher-educators took over the stage to express their gratitude towards their teachers in the form of poems, songs, dances, bhajans, speeches. Dr Balwant Singh exhorted the teaching community to become more creative and contributory members of the society by maintaining the dignity of this profession .
Blood donation camp
The National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Student Chapter of Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology organised a blood donation camp to celebrate Teacher’s Day. Eightyone units of blood were collected. Four teams of doctors and paramedics headed by Dr Jasneet Singh collected the Blood.
GGNIMT, Civil Lines
The Student Cultural Club of the GGN Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines, organised a felicitation ceremony to acknowledge the efforts of the teachers of the GGNIMT in shaping the lives of students. A programme was presented by students. Prof Manjit Singh Chhabra, coordinator, GGNIMT, addressed the students and assured them on behalf of the teachers that they would mentor them in realising their dream of excellence.
DD Jain College of Education
The day was celebrated with great fervour by all would-be teachers and their teachers and mentors on the campus of DD Jain College of Education. The celebrations begin with a welcome song followed by short speeches about the importance of the day and some poetry recitations. The Teacher’s Day celebrations were followed by the Janmashtami celebrations wherein one of the students gave a short speech on the life of Lord Krishna and recited “bhajans”. Principal Vijay Laxmi apprised the budding teachers about the relevance of celebrating Teacher’s Day and Janmashtami.
Punjab Institute of Management and Technology
Students of the Punjab Institute of Management and Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh, celebrated Teacher’s Day that marks the birth anniversary of a former President of India and renowned teacher, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Programmes such as ‘Follow my Teacher’, ‘Band of respect’ and ‘Thank You Wall’ were held by students to express their gratitude towards teachers.
Freshers’ party at GNKCW
The much-awaited freshers’ party at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, was held for the first year students by their seniors on Saturday. The high-voltage music and dance performances doled out by a mixed bunch of freshers and seniors were a special attraction of the day. More than 66 girls took part in a ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, flash lights along with excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party a memorable experience.
Aagaz and Aagman
Senior students of the Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology for Women, Civil Lines, organised a cultural function “Aagaz-n-Aagman” to welcome freshers. Competitions in rangoli, mehandi, poster-making, flower arrangement, pot decoration, solo song were organised. A fashion show was held which had three rounds.
National Nutrition Week
National Nutrition Week is being celebrated on the campus of the Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, to make students aware about the importance of health. A cooking competition with around 20 participants was conducted in the department of home science. Dr Mukti Gill, Principal, Khalsa College for Women, lauded the efforts of the students and the staff. She stressed the need to sensitize students on health issues by timely education, holding seminars, competitions and road shows, etc.
NSS enrolment drive
Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management conducted an enrolment drive in college for all students of BCom and BBA to familiarise them with community service and academic activities. —TNS
