Mohali, February 15
The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has decided to appoint 4,512 observers in addition to the staff deputed at the centres. They will be responsible for the conduct of the forthcoming matriculation and plus-two examinations.
Class XII exams are scheduled to be held from February 28 to March 24 and class X exams from March 14 to March 29.
Confirming the change in the job profile of the observers, PSEB chairman Balbir Singh Dhol said, “An observer will be stationed at each centre for the entire duration of the examination. Earlier, the observers had the job of checking the premises, ensuring order and confirming satisfaction before and after the examination. At the same time, the number of ‘flying’ staff has been reduced significantly.”
The chairman said, “Observers will be changed at each examination centre daily. Teachers will be informed only on the morning of the paper about their centre of duty. The board will be shifting the observers in 274 clusters. The entire movement will be coordinated by a control room in the headquarters.”
The chairman said that as many as 3,58,545 students will appear in the matriculation and 3,18,834 in the plus-two exam, besides about 80,000 re-appear cases in both the classes.
The dates for the class XII exam are before the matriculation exam “as children have to make attempts at getting admission in colleges and other professional courses which have fixed dates”.
