The distance education programme of Punjab Technical University (PTU) was finally cleared after nearly two years. The admission to the programme could not be done owing to certain pending clearances by the UGC.
Sandeep Kazal, Director, Distance Education, said: "We are in the process of releasing a notification. We will start admission to 11 courses — MSc (IT), MCA, PGDCA, BSc (IT), BCA, MBA, BBA, MCom, BCom, BA in Journalism and Mass Communication and MA in Journalism and Mass Communication."
The university intends to strengthen its programme by organising personal contact programmes for 10-15 days for every semester.
Appointment of VC hangs fire
Even as the Board of Governors of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University had finalised the name of its Vice-Chancellor and proposed it to the state government a month ago, the decision has been kept pending ever since.
The screening committee headed by Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal had proposed the name of Dr MP Poonia, Director, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh, for the post to the BOG, which was again chaired by the CS on July 6. The file has been moved for an endorsement of the Technical Education Minister and the Chief Minister.
Rakesh Verma, Secretary, Technical Education, said: "We had finalised and proposed the name to the government a month back. It will be announced only after there is a clearance."
