The Alumni Association of Biophysics met for its fifth reunion at Panjab University, Chandigarh, today. The old students of the Biophysics Department gathered at the Old Department of Biophysics and relived their memories of tea at the old student canteen on the campus. Later, they moved to ICSSR Complex for a series of talks and introductory sessions.
Prof GS Gupta shared an interesting account of the journey of the Biophysics Department and how it became his own life’s journey. He moved on to an encouraging note of “How Life starts at 60”.
ASSOBA members unveiled new features of their own website, www.pu-biofizix,org, which serves as the directory of the alumni, and also a point where they can share their news and events. Yoga session was delivered by Prof Raj Marwaha from the US. The old students visited the new campus where the department has now shifted. The day ended with a musical evening and a dinner. The event drew participants from the US, Canada, Australia and Sweden apart from participants from across the country.
The alumni were of the view that they should connect with present students of the department and apprise them of employment opportunities.
“I came from Sweden to connect with old friends, and go back to my university days,” said Anil Karihaloo, who now leads a research group at Astrazenika Pharmaceutical Company.
Ajay Chhibber who makes it a point to come to India from Canada for the reunion almost every year said “Coming back to old friends is a treat. It sure is a wonderful feeling.”
