The university has been awarded 3.34 points as against 3.11 points that it scored last time. Prior to this, the university was given highest “five-star” grade according to the existing system of ranking at that time.

The NAAC evaluates the institutes of higher education for rankings every five years, which enables them to get funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other government and private agencies and institutions corresponding to these rankings.

The NAAC ranking is based on an extensive criterion of evaluation, which constitutes curricula; teaching-learning; research consultancy and extension activities; infrastructure and learning resources; students support and progression; governance, leadership and management; innovations; and best practices and individual department performances and activities.

The visiting council was headed by Dr HP Dikshit (former Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU) with Dr LM Rao (Bangalore) as its coordinator. The other members of the team included Dr AK Pandey (Delhi), Dr Sukhpal Singh (Raipur), Dr Shailendra (Raipur), Dr SPS Narang (Delhi), Dr HPS Chauhan (Indore), Dr Suryanarayan (Chennai), Dr Mathews (Kochi) and Dr Srinivas (Hyderabad).
